As I look back, I now realize how "perilous" the situation was for me considering I was outnumbered by at least 1:10 (and counting) and that some of those hunting me down had literal "weapons of mass destruction"- i.e. sir Sniperace's 600 FPS SLR and sir Edmar's 700 FPS Bushmaster, not counting the "Hordes" of SP140 and SP130 equipped weapons in the hands of raging Adiks (you know who you are ). Also the site itself was not really designed for these kind of guns because it's so small that close, in your face engagements (and BTW I was wearing only a Neoprene face mask, can you say "ouch!" ) were the only option, no where to run or hide. Add to that the fact that I only had 3 standard cap mags (30 rounds each), only 1 reloading tool and a battery that I had charged 3 days before that could die at any given time only exacerbated the situation even more.
But believe it or not, it was actually ME who pushed for the "binyagan" that day. Did I have a death wish? Actually the reason why I asked to be baptized that day was because it was long overdue. I should have been inducted almost 2 months ago but because of unexpected events (i.e. guests showing up to skirmish with our team, invites to other game sites etc.) it was postponed over and over again. It came to a point na parang hindi na komportable ang pakiramdam ko whenever I was with the team kasi parang "ano ba talaga ako, bisita o team mate?". This was especially true during our meetings where I wanted to give my input and suggestions pero alanganin ako kasi di pa talaga ako full pledged member "nakikialam" na ako. I wanted the monkey off my back! I wanted to be a member no matter what the consequences were so I said: "Sige tapusin na natin ito!" (parang linya sa pelikula no hehehe ;D).
And so it was, on that dark, cold and rainy day, I was to be baptized. I secured my Milforce knee and elbow pads, filled my drop mag pouch with a bag of ICS BBs, wrapped my trusty sniper veil around my head and face, put on my Neoprene face mask, donned my PASGT helmet, adjusted my SWAT goggles, double checked its anti-fog fan and then put on my PASGT frag vest. Finally, I picked up my "trusty" STEYR AUG (which up until this time has not worked properly!) and loaded up my mags. I said my prayers (YOU will also pray when you know that 700 FPS BBs will be flying with your name on them) goodbyes to everyone, though I hesitated when I got to sir Manzi kasi his eyes were bloodshot, parang he was hungry for blood (turns out puyat lang pala siya ;D hehehe) and I reminded sir Paul that "we are friends".
Its kind of eerie pala when you walk out on the field alone. Parang ang daming aimpoint at crosshair ang naka sipat sa iyo- kasi walang ibang target sa field kundi ikaw! As I was walking I contemplated on my strategy:
1. Hide. Do not engage them no matter what, just hide. Lalabas nalang ako pag safe na- like kinabukasan!
2. Full frontal assault. Throw common sense out the window and initiate the assault, ala John Rambo. At least it will be over in a matter of seconds. Hindi tatagal ang pag durusa ko.
3. Make a last stand. Find a secure place preferably elevated and in a corner (so I won't be flanked or rear ended) that has lots of cover but provides plenty of access for observation and shooting. And shoot it out- western style!
I decided to take option #3. It wasn't long till I spotted what looked like to me a "stairway to heaven"- an elevated guard house (about 15 feet up) that had tin sheets on all 3 sides with just enough clearance for me to observe enemy movement and designate targets all around the field without compromising my cover. PERFECT! My only concern was if, as I was climbing up the steel ladder to the guard house and there was actually a guard on duty with a loaded shotgun, I accidentally surprise him by popping in his face. Imagine what his reaction would be if he, after a straight 24 hour shift, all tired and sleepy is startled by a man in full battle gear that apparently is trying to commandeer his post. Does anybody know kung anong FPS ng 8 gauge shotgun? Buti nalang walang tao doon when I went inside. I can't emphasize how perfect the place was: it was big enough so I was able to move around freely but not too big that I could not change positions (i.e. from one window to another) quickly, I could stand, kneel or crouch, it had a door and it was dark inside so there was absolutely no visual of me from the outside- just perfect .
As I awaited the first wave of attacks, I prepared my equipment. I clicked the safe button on my riffle to make it "unsafe" hehehe. Double checked my mags and laid them with my bag of BBs and quick loader on the floor for easy access. All the while chanting: "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life."- ala Jarhead! (sobrang kaadikan na to, kung ano nang pinag sasabi ko ;D)
I was surprised to spot "enemy' movement within a few minutes. I monitored at least two tangos from the field perpendicular to the main cluster of bunkers. They quickly fell into my effective range and I engaged. The first threat (sir Manzi?) quickly took evasive action and retreated to the fly pens. The second one was not as lucky. Since he did not know where the fire was coming from he wondered close to my position. He was about 40 yards away and he wasn't even facing my general direction! Habang sinisipat ko siya sa scope ko, I almost could here the US Marine Sniper chant: "One shot, one kill! One shot, one kill!". When I was ready to fire I contemplated on the superb skill and ability it takes to down an enemy with a single shot , what glory, what prestige, what honor........naaaaaah. Niratrat ko nalang siya for good measure! ;D Hah, I got one hehehe ;D. (yung niratrat ko later turned out to be sir Paul!).
Almost immediately it came. First parang madalang na patak ng ulan, then it was like a hailstorm na! Pina puputukan na ako from all sides! Iba iba ang sound- may mahina at kumakapik lang mayroon naman na parang mabubutas yung yero sa lakas! I'm sure yung malakas ay yung kay sir Sniperace kasi it suddenly stopped about halfway during the assault (nagloko kasi yung monster SLR niya- my prayers were answered! hehehe ;D) I took time to reload and when I got up and I peaked, saw two tangos in white shirts (they looked like Eskimos in Vietnam!) coming towards my position from the main bunkers. I was able to immediately ID them- sir Edmar and Sir Charlie. High priority targets! In my excitement and haste, though they were sitting ducks out in the open and fully visible, I forgot to use my scope and immediately unleashed a volley of full auto fire, needles to say I did not hit any of them and I emptied my mag so fast that it gave them time to take cover. What ensued afterwads was the fiercest AEG gun battle I have ever been involved in. Ang sarap! Boy, sir Edmar’s SP170 equipped Bushmaster is really powerful, balamu tititbagan de itang guard house! Anyway, unbeknownst to me, the "infidels" (led by non other than Sir Manzi and Sir Jimmy) were planning a daring raid on my "Tora Bora". They sneaked under the guard house while I was busy shooting it out and as I was reloading, one of them (I don't know his name but he was the one with the R6 that had a huge Lead Acid battery on the foregrip) slowly climbed up the ladder and knocked on the door and told me "Your dead, game over." I actually wanted to go out in a Blaze of Glory so I tried to point my AUG at him totally oblivious to the fact that it didn’t have a magazine! hehehe. ;D
